Reported by Beaus' Mom - Beau's vet told her that these 3 brands have more control over their sources, and are US sourced, than others: Science Diet, Pedigree, and Purina.

Reported by Cheysuli and Bonnie - I would like to add that my veterinarian insisted I remove my cats from Science Diet years ago. The holistic veterinarians, who are doctors of veterinary medicine just like any other vet but have additional training in various complementary therapies, typically recommend Wysong and Solid Gold. Solid Gold was NOT involved in the product recalls in any way. Both companies avoid chemical preservatives. Solid Gold works with primarily organic food manufacturers within the United States. From everything I have learned, their quality control is above reproach. Everything in their foods is the same quality that human food manufacturers use. They use organic products.

Purina Brand Cat Foods - According to Purina's website ( http://www.purina.com/recallFAQs.aspx) 4/26/07 No Rice Gluten, whey isolates, or barley gluten in any of their foods; Rice in their foods is from North American sources. They do source "important nutritional supplements" from China. 4/23/07, their corn meal gluten used in pet foods is US sourced, not from China where the contaminated glutens have come from. Quoted: "Does Purina use corn gluten meal from China? * No. Corn gluten meal used in Purina brand products comes from North American corn, with the vast majority being U.S. grown."
