LERER LESSONS: Sign up for media entrepreneurship sessions with Ken Lerer

MEDIA ENTREPRENEURSHIP GROUP: After an immensely successful set of "Lerer Lessons" in 2008-09, Ken Lerer, the chairman and co-founder of the Huffington Post, will be returning to the school this Fall to lead workshops on starting a media business. These sessions are open to the entire Columbia J-school community and will take place on six Tuesdays. Only those who can attend ALL SIX SESSIONS should sign up.

LERER LESSONS:

Six Tuesdays from 4-5:30 pm (changed by 30 minutes from first announcement in early August - it's been available, accurately, on the J-school Google Calendar since mid-August: http://bit.ly/columbiajschool ):

9/22
10/13
10/27
11/10
11/17
12/1
All sessions from 4-5:30 pm (class TBA to the students).

The only requirement is that if you sign up, you attend all six sessions).

Each session will consist of a presentation by Lerer and a guest speaker about a specific aspect of media entrepreneurship. Everything from starting your own company to understanding ads and traffic and distribution and much more. I have seen the lineup of the speakers and topics it's going to be a great opportunity for you to learn from the best. Even if you do not plan to start your own business in the next few years, I believe all journalists will benefit immensely from this.

If you cannot attend these sessions, we will look for ways to make some notes available. There will be other opportunities to learn about some of this in the Spring.

Meanwhile, watch Lerer deliver last year's Hearst New Media Lecture about the news business: "How We Got Here and How We Get Out of Here": http://columbianm.blogspot.com/2009/04/talk-ken-lerers-2009-hearst-new-media .html

DO NOT FILL THIS IN UNLESS YOU CAN DO ALL SIX SESSIONS.
