Here is my scenario. I have a dell server available that I want to use to virtualize one or two operating systems. Windows Server 2000 and Windows XP. I have the horsepower for these OSs and will not have any business critical applications on these VMs. The hardware is 64 bit compatible.
With that in mind I could purchase Windows Server 2008 and install Hyper-V or I could go the VMWARE ESXi route with no server license install cost.
From a cost perspective to get started the ESXi seems like a no brainer. However, looking ahead, which would I be better with over the long haul?
