Registration for Summer Professional Development Sessions

To All DOE Staff,

The Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy is pleased to offer professional development sessions for you this summer.

The sessions will provide information for the upcoming school year that will be helpful to you, your parents and the school community. There will be a question and answer period during each session.

Topics to be covered:

*Overview of Services provided by the New York City Housing Authority for families and the community

*Overview of Free family programs provided by the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum

*Information on non profit organization called Literacy Inc which provides a variety of options for students and families.

*Learning about the Food Stamp program and how to provide assistance to families that may qualify.

*Learning about Child Support and how to provide assistance to families in this area

*Family Building and Family Engagement techniques and practices

*Overview on citywide youth prevention programs

*Overview on immigration law and ways to support immigrant parents

*School Health

*Overview on school service projects and Penny Harvest program

*and much more

The professional development sessions will be held on the dates listed below. Sessions will be full day (9am-4pm) and will take place at St. Francis College in downtown Brooklyn.

* Wednesday July 22nd - Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance, Immigration Law, ACCESS NYC & Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center Presentation

* Thursday July 23rd - Family Engagement and Family Building presentations

* Tuesday July 28th - HRA presentations on Food Stamps and Child Support

* Wednesday July 29th - Penny Harvest Program, Link ED, Metropolitan Museum of Art Education program, Intrepid Museum & Literacy INC Presentations

* Thursday July 30th - Alliance for Arts & Girl Scouts Presentation

* Wednesday August 5th - Office of Ethics, Office of School Enrollment,DARR, Office of Equal Opportunity & Office of Special Investigations Presentations

* Thursday August 6th - The Office of School Health Presentation(H1N1 flu, Asthma, Obesity,Reproductive Health Services, Mental Health, Immunizations, Exercise and Fitnessgram)

* Tuesday August 11th - NYC Dept. Of Health & Mental Hygiene Presentation on Lead Poisoning Prevention and Healthy Homes
