[1] Another fun read - but three bullets, with one to the head where Sally could feel her brains, that's pushing it... and she digs herself out of her grave. Tough Froken.
I also find it interesting that Larsson develops his characters based on either their sexual preferences or like/dislike of women.
--john.gerhard October 4, 2009 7:25:14 AM PDT [2] Simply a fun reading experience. I burned a couple candles on this one! --john.gerhard September 23, 2009 5:25:29 PM PDT [3] Dark, perverted and a fun read. --john.gerhard September 12, 2009 3:00:01 PM PDT [4] After about 100 or so pages, I traded PaP and Z for 'Merles Door' by Ted Kerasote. The waitress' at my local bar were dying to read it. john.gerhard August 3, 2009 8:11:03 PM PDT [5] For me, a good novel, well written. Russo painted life with just the right number of strokes. I had a hard time taking it away from my eyeballs. The ending seemed too foreshortened and expected. --john.gerhard June 29, 2009 9:21:33 PM PDT [6] I liked the book, the Venice part seemed to add bulk more than much else. --denkporter Fri Jul 3 10:30:54 2009 [7] Amsterdam... Love the city. The book was a let down. --john.gerhard May 7, 2009 6:01:39 PM PDT [8] Well, I finished the Forgery of Venus. I enjoyed it and was not to surprised by the ending. It was one of several potential outcomes that would have worked. Gruber spun a good story and added the right twists and turns to keep it interesting. I like the way he took a slightly insane artist and made him repeatedly and alternately insane, whacked, o.k.-crazy and back to insane and ultimately normal-crazy. As crazy as it sounds, count me as 6.5/10 attendance. I was there. --JG April 13, 2009 9:44:06 PM PDT [9] I wish I was there to enjoy the company and share my comments. So far I am a bit underwhelmed. I find more emphasis on the author's name-dropping than any new and material facts. My opinion - He could have done it in 150 pages, flat; would have been less crowded with old info; I could have finished it in one sitting on the beach, in the sun... why is it 90 degrees, in January? -- February 4, 2009 4:45:34 PM PST [10] I finished 'Out Stealing Horses.' While I liked the book, the end left me out in the cold. I foresaw that Trond's dad was going to leave... which was consistent with Trond's 'disappearance' from his kids in his old age. But I can't figure out the end with his mom, Sweden and a new suit. I was expecting Lars to come up with something that tied things together, assuming Lars' mom just up and left him as well. I may have to re-read the last chapter. --john.gerhard January 15, 2009 8:59:58 PM PST I agree with John, the ending wasn't on a par with the wonderful writing throughout the rest of the book.--DP Thu Jan 15 20:23:15 2009 |
