NOTES:

.

1. Change "starting balance" in the first entry to the balance in your bank acct when you start the spreadsheet

.

2. These are just sample entries -- they're not real!

.

3. For each entry, enter date, item, and amount.

.

4. If it's a debit, put the amt in the third column.

.

5. If it's a deposit, put the amt in the fourth column.

.

6. The 6th column is a formula that should automatically calculate your balance after the item in that line is entered. It will get messed up if you delete rows above it ... if that happens, copy and paste the formula from a higher row and paste it in all the rows below it. Does that make sense?

.

7. I highlight the items that haven't cleared in my bank acct in yellow. There's also a red asterisk. You can use one or the other, or both.

.

8. The little listing at the far right is how I make sure that my spreadsheet balances with my bank account balance. I simply have a listing of the uncleared entries (in yellow), with a total for all the uncleared entries. Then I have my bank acct balance (that's not my real balance!), and then the balance after the last entry in the spreadsheet (the number in pink), and subtract the difference. If the total uncleared matches the difference between the balances, then my spreadsheet is balanced. If it doesn't, I have to figure out what's missing.
