PRIMARY GOAL: easy way to use stock D&D4e materials in a FATE game

.

1) level-based advancement

.

A) apprentice-to-master progression

.

B) features at particular levels provide something for players to anticipate

.

C) "level" is a concrete feature of characters

.

2) aspected alignment

.

A) "Chaotic Good: The ends justify the means, if it's for a good cause"

.

B) partly a "mission statement" for the character

.

C) compellable

.

3) classes

.

A) a lot of variety in characters' abilities (large spell lists, class feature diversity)

.

B) limited access to abilities, based on class and level

.

4) Combat tactics

.

A) keep to zones

.

B) engagement

.

C) opportunity attacks

.

D) groups

.

5) FATE mechanics

.

A) aspects, assessment, declaration, etc.

.

6) D&D scale is 20-valued and FATE scale is 9-valued (-4 - 4), so FATE ~ D&D/2

.

A) +2 in D&D is roughly like a +1 in FATE so most feats translate to a +1 bonus

.

B) each attribute rank is roughly equivalent to 4 pts in D&D, so +0 ~ 10-13, +1 ~ 14-17, +2 ~ 18-21, +3 ~ 22-25, +4 ~ 26-29, +5 ~ 30-33

.

7) 1/2 level is represented by a skill number (range from 0 to 7)

.

A) Skill number is used for powers, defense numbers, and skill rolls

.

8) skills based on attributes

.

A) resolve (wis), endurance (con), perform (cha), etc.

.

9) attrs add to relevant skills and powers

.

A) start with 2 attribute points and the possibility of upgrading by taking poors (-1)

.

B) racial bonuses can bump up the max and provide extra points (humans get a +1 to any, others get 2 specific +1s)

.

10) Extra stress boxes

.

A) stress is relative to expertise, so higher level characters take less stress from a hit by a lower level character

.

B) magic item bonuses increase damage

.

.

.

This ends up with numbers that are much larger than you find in SotC -- a 25th level rogue power might do +18 damage and a 30th level character might have attack and defense numbers of +17. 30th level is big.
