Technical Notes:

.

1. Each verse is in the 5-7-5 or 7-7 syllable count format.

2. Stanza 1: The concept is that the petals are covering the snow (which may have fallen late in the Spring).

3. Stanza 3: The child's interest in his/her new pet frog has suddenly been replaced by interest in racing a paper boat in the puddles created by the melting snow.

4. Stanza 4: This has an intentional ambiguity in that the person wearing the paper party hat could be either a toddler with no hair, or an older man going bald.

4. Stanza 6: This stanza links back to verse 5 and also links back to verse 1, completing the rengay cycle. The link of "pink over white" is based on the allusion that baby clothes and accessories are typically blue or pink depending on the gender of the baby.
