Technical Notes:

.

1. The first verse was inspired one day when we were at a garden centre after it had rained hard the previous night and I saw a potted rose that had succumbed to the storm. The image is a personification of kissing followed by the more usual sort of kiss in verse 2. The other verses in the series are meant to provide a variety of other types of "kissing".

5. A forward heading is hitting a soccer ball with your head toward your opponent's goal. It allows you to gain possession of the ball, pass, set up an attack, score goals and defensively clear the ball from the goal area. The fun part of this verse is that it is his first try at this and instead of bouncing the ball off his forehead, the implication is that it hits him straight in the face, and he metaphorically "kisses" the ball.
