. | Reds Payroll Commitments - by Justin Inaz of http://jinaz-reds.blogspot.com |
. | |
. | Notes: |
. | 1. This spreadsheet attempts to track the Reds' payroll commitments over time. |
. | 2. All dollar amounts are given in millions. |
. | 3. Uncommited contracts--renewals, arbitration, etc, are not included as dollar amounts until the contracts are actually announced. |
. | 4. Option years are indicated by buyout amounts, as that's the $$ actually committed. |
. | 5. In uncommitted years, I indicate years of service. 3+ year and higher players (as well as "super 2+" players) qualify for arbitration. In general, we can assume 20% of free agent value ($$) for Super 2 players, 40% for 3+ year, 60% for 4+ year, and 80% for 5+ year players. Lack of any notation indicates that a player will be a free agent. |
. | 6. Estimated service time is calculated as the difference (in years) between a player's debut and June 1st, 2008. This seems to work well, though demotions and time on the disabled list can screw up those estimates. Take them as a guide, not a fact. |
. | 7. The Salary Commitments Graph was inspired by a similar figure presented by Derek Zumsteg of the USS Mariner Blog. |
. | 8. Most salary data came from http://www.mlb4u.com |
. | 9. Signing bonuses are appended to the first year's salary, unless some special arrangement means it will be paid out in other years. |
