. | 6/22/2009 12:39:05 | Todd Van Hoosear | The elephant in the room: Why bother? | This session is for all the skeptics out there, but also for the believers out there who have nevertheless been challenged by their friends, colleagues, bosses or clients to back up their claims of the wonderful panacea that is social media with some cold hard data. Four years in, do we have any better answers to the most basic of questions: why should I, or my company, engage in social media? Here's a hint: "Because everybody's doing it" still doesn't cut it. Is social media and web 2.0 driving real business benefits, and if so, how do you measure them and explain them in a way that a CEO or a grandmother can understand? |
. | 6/23/2009 15:02:15 | Rick Stein | The future of writing in social media | Between blogs, tweets and texting there is more actual writing done than ever before. Yet, it is apparent that quality writing is not always present. How do professional writers market themselves to take advantage of opportunities in the social media marketplace? How do those looking to improve their writing sharpen this now-essential skill? |
. | 6/26/2009 17:14:05 | Wayne Kurtzman | I Kan Haz Social Meatier Analytix? | Can you measure social media interactions in a meaningful way? Regardless of your opinion, numbers will still be speaking louder than words to most CXOs.
With the help of fluffy felines from icanhascheezburger.com to help facilitate the discussion, we'll talk about the content, behaviors, technology and other factors that can influence your Key Performance Indicators for measuring social media.
Other potential areas: > What are you doing now, how are you doing it and is it working? > What do you want to be doing, and why? > What companies are out there to help, and CAN they help? > And why are we using cats to help determine the answer to these questions? (There *IS* a reason). |

. | 7/8/2009 10:38:28 | Sara Streeter | Friend Of A Friend: What does Berners-Lee's Linked Data have in store for Social Media? | When you type "HTTP://" into your browser, you are most likely looking to access a set of documents - a website. Tim Berners-Lee, architect of the World Wide Web, suggests that the HTTP addresses (URIs) can be used to link sets of data across the web - data, not documents.
If you're on the web and have your own permanent domain, you can already publish your own FOAF or "Friend of a Friend" profile that will hook into this linked data (here's a tutorial http://dig.csail.mit.edu/breadcrumbs/node/71 )
Where might linked data take us in the context of social media? Let's find out in our discussion.
In the meantime, check out http://linkeddata.org/ to read up ahead of time. |
. | 7/8/2009 15:18:39 | Elizabeth B. Thomsen | Building Community Through Photography | How can individuals and organizations use social media to build a sense of community through photography? (This includes both communities of place and communities of interest.)
How are people sharing both new and old photographs through Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, etc.? How can we encourage people to do more than just look at photographs, but to engage with them through discussion, providing information, remixing, and more?
How is the new world of ubiquitous photography changing the way we look at history? |

. | 7/13/2009 16:08:34 | Mike Volpe and Karen Rubin | What equipment is best for a video podcast? | We do the HubSpot TV live video podcast once a week. We are more marketng personalities than gearheads, and we'd like some input and discussion around equipment for VIDEO podcasting, especially when you have a LIVE show.
We'd be happy to share intimate details about our setup and info about the 3 different live streaming sevices we have used, plus the different camers, etc. AND, we'd like a bunch of input and discussion from other people about what they use, what they have tried and what works and what doesn't?
HD or not? Why? Adding good audio in a SIMPLE way? What camera to use for live streaming? What video camera and format for iTunes? File formats - how to get the best quality with the smallest file size and still be compatible with iTunes and all other video sites... Etc.
We'd like to focus on using the bare minimum level of gear to get great results. Anyone can do good things with tons of gear, the skill is in buying just the small amount of stuff that keeps it simple, but effective. |
. | 7/13/2009 16:11:58 | Mike Volpe and Karen Rubin | What are your tips for growing video podcast viewership? | We want to live stream a session of www.HubSpot.tv from Podcamp. We normally do a show every Friday at 4pm, we will add another show for Podcamp. We have won awards for HubSpot TV - a Videographer Award and a Webby Award.
As part of live streaming the special episode of HubSpot TV, we'd like to discuss one or more topics. One possible topic is "What are your tips for growing video podcast viewership?"
Social media? Video podcast directories? Email? Viral promotion? Contests? Guests on the show? Other online distribution? Etc.
We have not done much to promote HubSpot TV, and we will want a lot of input from others on this topic.
In order to make the live show somewhat effective, we will need to make the discussion focused, and people who have somehting to add will need to come to the front to be on camera. This will probably actually make the overall experience more organized since the discussion will be more organized, but still interactive. |
. | 7/13/2009 16:15:36 | Mike Volpe and karen Rubin | How can you use video podcasting for b2b marketing? | We run a live markeitng podcast called HubSpot TV weekly. We'd love to share a bit about what we do, how we do it, and why we think video podcasting is a great tool for b2b marketing. We'd also love to hear tips and tricks from others on what they think, what they have tried that has worked, what failed, etc. |
