MERS was created by the mortgage banking industry to streamline the mortgage process by using electronic commerce to eliminate paper. Our mission is to register every mortgage loan in the United States on the MERS® System.
Beneficiaries of MERS include mortgage originators, servicers, warehouse lenders, wholesale lenders, retail lenders, document custodians, settlement agents, title companies, insurers, investors, county recorders and consumers.
MERS acts as nominee in the county land records for the lender and servicer. Any loan registered on the MERS® System is inoculated against future assignments because MERS remains the nominal mortgagee no matter how many times servicing is traded. MERS as original mortgagee (MOM) is approved by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, FHA and VA, California and Utah Housing Finance Agencies, as well as all of the major Wall Street rating agencies.
Not sure if they have directly received taxpayer money, but they certainly received it through FHA, HUD, Fannie, Freddie and Ginnie. In addition, they've certainly received it through the bank bailouts. | http://market-ticker.org/archives/1454-Has-A-MERShole-Opened-Up.html | . | 9/22/2009 16:24:11 | Wellpoint was accused of falsifying data about its performance of cost report audits for Medicare, according to the Justice Department.

According to the report, Army officials "frequently have simply accepted the level of services the contractor provided without questioning whether they could be provided more efficiently or less frequently at lower cost."]

HCA is owned by the Frist family (as in former Senator Bill Frist). HCA has been found guilty of several instances of Medicare fraud -- they have paid fines of over $600 million.
For this reason, they should be denied access to federal money -- no more Medicare money for HCA.
http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=frist_things_first
-- quote The charges began to surface late in '93, when the U.S. General Accounting Office began to uncover a pattern of Medicare fraud involving HCA. Throughout the decade, charges snowballed against the firm. Eventually HCA would emerge as arguably America's most egregious corporate criminal, accused of having bilked U.S. taxpayers and the Medicare system out of billions of dollars. In a desperate effort to restore its good name, HCA would agree to three settlements between 2000 and 2003, paying civil and criminal fines amounting to $1.47 billion. Although several HCA officials were indicted, the settlement allowed HCA to escape further government action against it. Even the enormous fines paid by HCA may suggest a sweetheart deal between HCA and the Bush administration's Department of Justice, because under Medicare rules HCA was liable for treble damages for the fraud it engineered -- which would have cost the company many billions -- and could have been barred from doing business with Medicare. It wasn't. -- end quote

10-JAN-2005 -- The Justice Department charged Monsanto Company with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in connection with an illegal payment of $50,000 to a senior Indonesian Ministry of Environment official, and the false certification of the bribe as "consultant fees" in the company's books and records.
Federal officials charged Monsanto with violating the anti-bribery and false books and records provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. But the company did not have to plead guilty to the charge – instead it entered into the now ubiquitous deferred prosecution agreement. | http://www.corporatecrimereporter.com/monsanto010605.htm | . | 9/23/2009 15:00:25 | Aetna Insurance:
Rosenberg v Aetna CA Superior Ct.
A Los Angeles Jury found Aetna guilty in a suit the accused the company of illegally withholding benefits and causing the death of a patient. However, the jury would not award punitive damages because they found the insurer did not act with malice, fraud or oppression. The sides settled the underlying amounts for compensatory damages prior to the jury awarding $426,000. This case is one of a Medicare HMO patient and the mismanaging of the coordination of care between providers. A nursing home involved had previously settled for $250,000.

I've already submitted this, but I wanted to add that organizations such as this one should NOT be allowed to obtain government funds and then also inject funds that would be used against a segment of the population. In ANY other type of organization this would be considered money laundering, but within our form of theocratic republic, it seems like it is status quo. | Please see the links within the body of the text. | . | 9/23/2009 17:02:59 | Raytheon - knew that the Patriot Missile System IFF radar did not work. During the Iraq war in April 2003 the Raytheon Patriot Iff Radar was responsible for downing 2 US jets and 1 British jet. The Raytheon Corp told the press that all the piots had not turned on their IFF transponders to talk to the IFF radar. This was a lie. They continued this lie for almost 5 years. In Dec 2007 Raytheon ( and also the Army ) confessed that they had know that the Patriot IFF radar did not work correctly. This came about by the following: The last jet downed was that of Navy pilot Nathan White and was basically an act of murder by Raytheon for which his widow wanted compensation in a court lawsuit. on the first or 2nd day of the trial the confession happened. This has been very insulting to all the workers at Raytheon over the years that discovered that the Patriot IFF radar did not worked and were fired or forced to quit. I was forced to quit Raytheon in June 2002, about 10 months before the 4 man slaughters by the Raytheon Patriot Missile System. I knew as soon as the first jet was shot down what was happening. I was not surprised by the Raytheon lies. I am willing to testify against Raytheon in any court. I have recently lost my secret clearance supposedly due to debt developed in 2002 due to being forced out of Raytheon but more probably due to Raytheon lobbying. | http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles/2007/02/06/widow_of_navy_pilot_sues_raytheon/ | . | 9/23/2009 17:03:15 | KBR | http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/22/AR2005082201435.html | . | 9/23/2009 17:07:37 | UnitedHealth Group, Aetna (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/16/business/16health.html?scp=4&sq=unitedhealth%20group&st=cse); UnitedHealth Group (http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/01/30/unitedhealth-faces-heavy-fines-in-calif/), (http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/4562#more-4562), (http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/4537#more-4537); Blue Cross Blue Shield (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/bluecross.html), (http://articles.latimes.com/2006/apr/26/business/fi-bluecross26); Pharmacia & Upjohn Company (Pfizer) has agreed to plead guilty to a felony violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for misbranding Bextra with the intent to defraud or mislead (http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2009pres/09/20090902a.html), Mega Life & Health (http://attorneypages.com/hot/mass-fines-mega-life-17-million.htm); Humana (http://www.faqs.org/abstracts/News-opinion-and-commentary/Humana-settles-fraud-case-HMO-plan-lets-elderly-stay-home.html), (http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P3-40490263.html); Aetna (http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/category/consumer-fraud), (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/aetna.html); Wellpoint (http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/4769#more-4769), Cigna (http://articles.latimes.com/2002/dec/05/business/fi-cigna5), (http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/4769#more-4769), (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/cigna.html); Health Net (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/healthnet.html),(http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0208/499231.html); Humana (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/humana.html); Prudential (http://www.hmosettlements.com/pages/prudential.html); | http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2009/jan/13/business/chi-biz-united-healthcare-scheme-jan13 | . | 9/23/2009 18:05:52 | Halliburton | http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ei=lJu6SojeLt63twe5ndCADw&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=halliburton+fraud&spell=1 |

| | | | . | 9/24/2009 20:33:57 | National Republican Congressional Committee. Their former treasurer committed fraud against them by stealing as much as $1million from their accounts. This is similar to the ACORN issue in that two employees were fired and accused of illegal acts. Their acts have caused ACORN to lose federal funds and their name has been drug through the mud on a national level, all because of the actions of two employees. Where is the same outrage against the NRCC, whose treasurer diverted funds from their accounts? Why treat them like a victim and treat ACORN like they are a criminal organization when they too are victims of bad employees? I don't understand why ACORN is being subjected to this level of scrutiny for the activities of two ex-employees. If every organization is to be judged based on what bad employees do, then let's do this fairly and hold the Republicans to the same standard. They must all be guilty of stealing $1million, if ACORN is guilty of what their employees did. | http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/13/AR2008031302841.html | . | 9/24/2009 21:32:19 | Raytheon Company | http://www.contractormisconduct.org/index.cfm/1,73,221,html?ContractorID=46&ranking=5 | . | 9/24/2009 21:56:51 | ACORN | http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/illegal_no_problem_n4T60xZM5cjfyjuLDSyYOM | . | 9/24/2009 21:58:06 | Lockheed Martin | http://www.contractormisconduct.org/index.cfm/1,73,221,html?ContractorID=38&ranking=1 | . | 9/24/2009 21:59:02 | Bank of America | http://losangeles.bizjournals.com/losangeles/stories/2009/09/21/daily5.html | . | 9/24/2009 22:00:07 | Merck & Co., Inc | http://www.contractormisconduct.org/index.cfm/1,73,221,html?ContractorID=139&ranking=42 | . | 9/24/2009 22:01:06 | Banking industry, Federal Reserve, FDIC | http://market-ticker.org/archives/1456-CORRUPTION-Reverse-Insurance!-FDIC.html | . | 9/24/2009 22:02:18 | Hospital Corporation of America - we should stop all medicare and medicaid payments to this fraudulent group! Title: Florida Aircraft Parts Supplier Convicted on Fraud Charges in Connection with False Certifications on Flight-Critical Parts Date: November 20, 2006 Type: Investigation Summary: On November 20, a federal jury in Miami, FL convicted George Myles, Jr., owner of Miles Aviation, Inc., on 13 of 14 counts of lying about the condition of aircraft parts in violation of the Aircraft Safety Act of 2000. According to evidence at trial, between 2005 and 2006, Myles Jr. purchased used aircraft parts and resold them to the Department of Defense as "new" or "new surplus." The engine parts he falsely certified on Defense Department forms were flight-critical; their failure could be potentially catastrophic and/or cause serious damage to aircraft. Myles also sold numerous aircraft parts to non-military users, fraudulently certifying that the parts were airworthy. As neither Myles nor Miles Aviation, Inc. were licensed by the FAA to perform inspections, repairs, or overhauls they could not certify the airworthiness of aircraft parts. Sentencing is scheduled for February 26, 2007. This investigation was conducted with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the NASA OIG.

MEDQUIST INC. TO PAY $6.6 MILLION TO RESOLVE CIVIL HEALTH CARE LIABILITY RELATING TO BILLING PRACTICES
From 1998 onward, MedQuist provided medical transcription services to several federal government clients, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Department of Defense (DOD), the Public Health Service (PHS), a part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Certain contracts between MedQuist and the United States called for MedQuist to bill according to a standard established by the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists called the “AAMT line.”
The government alleges that, from approximately 1998 through 2004, MedQuist knowingly overbilled VA, DOD, and PHS for medical transcription services. For a group of contracts specifying the AAMT character counting methodology, MedQuist inflated the number of lines billed to the Government with the use of a factor, ratio, and/or multiplier instead of applying the contractually prescribed method.

... MedQuist had contracted with the Veterans Administration to transcribe voice dictation from doctors at Veterans Administration Medical Centers around the world. According to Purdue, some of this transcription work has been done by offshore workers in India and Pakistan. Purdue says American transcriptionists are paid 10 to 12 cents per line. Companies in India and Pakistan will do an entire page of notes for less than 25 cents. MedQuist's Web site notes the company has "10,000 US/based transcribers." No mention is made of overseas workers.

Accurate time stamping was critical. When I asked management where those files were coming from I was told they were offshore stuff. I thought Bermuda or the Bahamas. They said no, it was India and Pakistan."

You may not realize it, but I have no doubt that some people are running out of patience. I wonder what I would do if I were unemployed, knowing what I know.
