. | "Students will explore American Literature through a variety of genres, authors, cultures and styles exploring the impact of culture and history on literature. They will continue to hone their skills of analyzing, evaluating and critiquing while also working on creating their own pieces of literature including essays, letters, poetry, and short stories. Students will use a notebook strategy for vocabulary development, reading goals, and writing. The 6 Traits of effective writing will be utilized to analyze their writing and students will be expected to write for a variety of purposes. This course will consist of regular readings from a textbook and other sources, novels, and literary compilations. The student will do daily work (answering questions, discussions, and vocabulary and grammar practice) as well as group/individual projects and other assessments. Materials may include but are not limited to: textbooks, novels, poetry books, newspapers, magazines, journals, and computer technology and internet research.
