Kersing Huang (kh295), Rachel Har (rh338), Edgar Lei (el229)

Daniel: Our Cornell Tour Guide

Wednesdays @ 7:30 PM • North Campus
Shawn Liang (xl78), Rachel Pang (np237)

Feeling lonely and depressed in a foreign place like Ithaca?? Bombarded with the stress of prelims? Having issues with affiliating into your major or not sure what you want to do?! Struggling to walk with God amongst your peers? Do you compromise your own moral standards? Afraid of how other people judge you? Do you trust that God will take care of us now and for all your days? “Is God here with us?"

God never promised to keep his people from hard times. He does promise to be with us as we go through those hard times. God has the power to deliver his people even from the worst situations. Come and join us as we examine the life of Daniel to learn how God can use us for His Kingdom and how we can persevere with Him here at Cornell. “Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.” Daniel 12:3

Matthew

Thursday @ 7:30 PM • Court 505
Henry Wen (yhw2), Kevin Yang (ky238)

Hated, a traitor to his people, Matthew may have thought that there was nothing left for him in his Jewish roots. Yet he wrote the Gospel that speaks most clearly of Jesus as the hope of Israel, the long awaited Messiah, and the God of the Old Testament. This semester we invite you to explore the Gospel of Matthew with us. This Gospel contains some of the most extensive quotations of Jesus. While containing basic truths, it is also a book that contains much deeper meaning. What exactly do the beatitudes mean? What did Jesus mean when he talked about salt? We will walk slowly through the scenic garden of Christ's words, to smell the sweat scents of his tenderness, to gaze upon the piercing beauty of his wisdom. This Bible study will closely examine passages of Matthew to come to a deeper understanding of the Word of God, how it applies to our daily lives and, with Matthew, to fall back in love with our precious Lord Jesus.

No Middle Ground: A Study in 1 John

Tuesday @ 9:30 PM • Eddygate 2D
Alex Lee (awl9), Ann Yang (ay83)

“The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:4) Are our actions backing up the words that we say? Or are our words betraying us? The book of 1 John warns us of the claims we can make as Christians while still not living according to the commands of our God. Contrast images comparing light and dark, truth and lies, and love and hatred describe the clear differences between the misguided Christians’ words and actions in that day. The author makes clear that the consequences of our actions are serious. There is no room for the man that speaks godly words but lives a life of sin. We must look to God (who is light, truth and love) as the ultimate source of power to change our lives so that our words will match and proclaim what we believe in our hearts. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7

Girls Bible Study: Fruit of the Spirit

Thursday @ 9:00 PM • Eddygate 5C
Cynthia Kwong (ck265), Chloe Ma (czm2), Judy Liang (jhl49)

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2. Once we've come into the faith, the Holy Spirit works to transform us into something new in a process called sanctification. It's a process that chips away at everything we once thought was good enough. God breaks us down so that He can build us up stronger because "good enough" isn't good for Him. He will add love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control to us (Gal 5:22-23). How does this happen? What does it look like? Every day is a battle between our sinful desires and the influence of the Spirit. In this study, sisters will study the works of the Holy Spirit together. Through prayer, discussion and accountability, we will reflect on whether we are being transformed by the Spirit or swept out by the currents of the world.

Mens Bible Study: Fighting the Good Fight

Tuesday @ 7:30 PM • Eddygate 3E
Eric Yau (ety2), Jefferson Wu (jw399), Caleb Chan (ccc49)

One might wonder what a mens Bible study is, or what it accomplishes, or even how it is different from other studies. Everyone deals with the same things, right? We know that what is certain is that the word of God has the power to transform lives (Hebrews 4:12). That being said, men have their own set of problems, issues, joys and fears to struggle through. Paul, in his letter to Timothy, a man he called his "true son in the faith," speaks to a young man, teaching him to walk in holiness and the truth. This hope of this Bible study is for an atmosphere where we will attempt to learn more about equipping young men with the proper tools and hearts to follow Christ and live in Godly fashion. Likewise, we will focus on building up a Biblical character pleasing to God. From there, we can tackle difficult topics and areas of our lives together, building accountability and unity along the way, so that at the end of our lives, we can mimic Paul's words to Timothy and say that "[we] have fought the good fight, [we] have finished the race, [we] have kept the faith. Now there is in store for [us] the crown of righteousness..." (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
