Tasting Table Local Edition Editor for Washington D.C.

Tasting Table is hiring an editor to manage our Washington D.C. edition, launching this December.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our rapidly growing start-up. The ideal candidate will be an experienced writer or editor who has his or her finger on the pulse of metro D.C. eating and drinking culture. Tasting Table covers not only new restaurants and bars but also tried-and-true establishments. The editor must have significant experience covering food, wine and/or spirits and deep network of writers and industry acquaintances. And, of course,
the editor must be a great writer, a terrific home cook, an adventurous diner, an armchair sommelier and an aspiring mixologist. A sense of humor and a consistent caffeination level preferred.

Responsibilities:
* Produce one original, inspired Washington D.C. e-mail (max 175 words) every weekday across our content areas: dining, wine, cocktails, spirits, cooking, restaurant buzz, food events, food travel
* Represent Tasting Table in Washington. Evangelize our brand by telling everyone who will listen about our awesome daily e-mail publication.
* Manage a network of contacts, publicists, freelancers, and tipsters to feed you great content ideas.
* Remain plugged in to our New York headquarters to collaborate on marketing, events and other shared aspects of the Tasting Table enterprise.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required. Liberal Arts or journalism background preferred.
* Three years work experience in food media (food journalism, magazines, online media, et al.; being an experienced writer who likes to eat is not adequate qualification for this role. The editor must already be active in the Washington food scene.)
* At least three years full-time residence in Washington.
* A complete and thorough understanding of Tasting Table's editorial approach, style and tone.
* Wit / humor. Ability to produce a serious work product without taking yourself too seriously.
* Grown-up time-management and organization skills.
* Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
* Ability to motivate yourself every day: This is a home-based position in which all of your daily work occurs using collaboration tools on the Internet and over the phone.
* Obsessive attention to punctuation and accuracy of facts, names, times, addresses, etc.
* Impervious to writer's block. Doesn't make excuses. Loves this business.

Benefits: Tasting Table offers a competitive salary, health benefits (medical and dental), a Macintosh-based tech environment and nowhere to go but up. Location: Washington, D.C. (home-based position)
Employment Status: Full-time professional position requiring 8+ hours of your dedication per day. Part-time, on-the-side or in-your-spare-time are not options. (There aren't enough hours in the day for all the things you'll be doing to make Tasting Table D.C. a massive success!)
Compensation: Based on experience and ongoing performance.
