Adequate (8 pts)—The essay responds to the assignment and addresses the topic, however, would be improved with more details and supporting examples.
Weak (4 pts.)—The essay doesn’t respond well to the assignment, topic is inadequately developed, and needs more detailed examples.

Strong (12 pts)—The essay is well-structured with distinct introduction, body of essay, and conclusion. Paragraphs are well-ordered and transition from one to another.
Adequate (8 pts)—The essay is structured with distinct introduction, body of essay, and conclusion. Paragraphs need to be reordered and show smoother transitions.
Weak (4 pts)—The essay is missing components of its structure, does not transition smoothly, and needs to be reordered.
Points
Grammar and mechanics
Strong (12 pts)—The essay is nearly free of errors in terms of grammar, making sense, spelling, and punctuation. Demonstrates effort in revision process.
Adequate (8 pts)—The essay contains noticeable errors that do not seriously detract from the essay’s effectiveness. Demonstrates some effort in revision process.
Weak (4 pts)—Errors in terms of grammar, making sense, spelling, and punctuation are frequent and distract from the essay’s effectiveness. Demonstrates little effort in revision.
