1Announcements (Instructors/Students)NUOL OnlyIn NUOL Blackboard, Announcements are not automatically emailed to Students. Selecting the Override User Notifications option when creating an announcement does not email the announcement to Students either. To notify Students about an announcement, you must send the message through email as well.

.

3Assessments (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLWhen a user replaces an assignment draft file with a file of the same name, neither of the files appear. Both the history and Grade Center do not display the attached files.Students should not replace an assignment draft file with a file of the same name. Rename the edited file before uploading and submitting the assignment.

.

4Assessments (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLWhen a Students navigates away from an assessment without clicking Submit, the following warning is displayed: "You have not submitted the test. Please return to the test and select Save and Submit." The Students must click OK. If force completion was chosen by the instructor when the assessment was created, the Students cannot return and retake the assessment. When instructors select Force Complete while creating an assessment, they should make Students aware that they must complete and submit the assessment in one session. To avoid this issue, do not select Force Complete when creating assessments. Instead, set a time in which your assessment must be completed. Students should not navigate away from an exam while taking it, and be sure to click Submit when they are finished, before navigating elsewhere in Blackboard.

.

7Course Material (Instructors)NEU and NUOLThe Text Box editor doesn't support certain HTML tags, such as the <script> tag. This is by design, but it makes the Text Box editor seem overly sensitive to certain HTML sequences. One possible sign of this issue may be strange character sequences showing up in posted items, especially when copying and pasting material from Microsoft Office products. One way of mitigating this issue is to use the special "Paste From Word" mashup button when pasting from MS Office products (more info here: http://j.mp/neu-bb9-pastefromword)

.

8Course Material (Instructors)NEU and NUOLBlackboard has a quota on courses of 4GB per course for all files contained in the Course Files area and/or posted in the course site. However, there is no current way for an instructor to know how much of this quota has been used. Instructors are encouraged to pay attention to the size of the files contained in the course files area and delete any files they do not plan to use in the course. They are also encouraged to post files in myFiles (http://myfiles.neu.edu) and link to them from Blackboard (more information: http://j.mp/neu-bb9-myfiles)

.

9Course Material (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLIf a Students reports that the course menu is missing on the left side of the course, it is most likely because he/she has clicked the "Hide Course Menu" button. Here is a video demonstrating how the button works as a toggle: http://screencast.com/t/WUgyxK7IgTo make the menu re-appear, toggle using the [>] button. Demonstration: http://screencast.com/t/WUgyxK7Ig

.

11Email (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLIn Blackboard 9.1, when course notifications for content changes in courses are sent via email, they originate from the Blackboard administrator email address (blackboard@neu.edu), rather than from the email address of the person who posted the content that triggered the notification. For example, if the instructor posts an announcement and chooses to override the Students notification settings and force an email, the email will not originate from the instructor's email address, so any replies are not sent back to the instructor. Blackboard is considering changing this behavior in a future version. Until then, Students should pay attention to whom they are sending email in the To: line when they reply to email originating from Blackboard.SP6

.

12Facebook (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLThe Blackboard Facebook application (http://apps.facebook.com/blackboard_sync) may not sync properly with the Blackboard site. Blackboard is working on this issue and hopes to have a resolution soon.No current workaround. Check Blackboard content within Blackboard instead of Facebook.

.

13Faculty Profile (Instructor/Students)NEU and NUOLWhen creating a Blackboard profile, if an Instructor enters virtual office hours in the Office Hours field, but does not enter information in the Office Location field, Students will not see office hours. However, Instructors can see the information in Edit mode. When creating a profile, Instructors should enter information, such as "Virtual", in "Office Location" to ensure that Students see their office hours.

.

14Grade Center (Instructors)NEU and NUOLCourse copy has caused duplicate columns in the gradebook. In the Grade Center, click the down arrow next to the column head. If you see the option to delete, the column is safe to delete. If there is no delete option, the column is likely attached to a deployed assignment or test and should not be deleted. On some occasions you may find that you are not able to delete a column that does not appear to be connected to any assignment, test, or discussion board. In this case open a ticket with the help desk, and the column can be deleted via the back end.

.

15Grade Center (Instructors)NEU and NUOLIn the Grade Center, the text prompt "To download the file and work offline, click Download to Open the file or right click and select Save As to save the file locally." is not correct. Choosing the first option: "right click and select Save As to save the file locally" does not work.Instructors should not use the option to "right click and select Save As to save the file locally" but choose "Download" to accomplish the task.

.

16Grade Center (Instructors)NEU and NUOLCopying courses duplicates Grade Center Smart Views. In the Grade Center, click Manage then Smart Views to delete excess Smart Views. .

18Grade Center (Instructors)NEU and NUOLThe Grade Center may display a large number of decimal places in computed numeric grades. This is not mathematically significant, but it is not ideal presentation. Blackboard is working on this issue. No current workaround other than to ignore the extra decimal places which are not mathematically significant to the grade computation

.

19Grade Center (Instructors)NEU and NUOLWhen grading using a non-numeric grading scheme (e.g. Text or Letter grades), Blackboard will accept non-numeric grades in Gradebook cells and in "Edit Grade" screen as expected. However, the "Attempt" grading screen will only accept numeric input. This is scheduled to be resolved in a future version of Blackboard. Until then, the workaround is to grade by typing directly in the cells of the Grade Center, or by using the "Edit Grade" option when using non-numeric grades.SP5819651

.

20Grade Center (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLWhen a Students submits multiple attempts for an assignment, the most recent attempt does not get displayed or totaled in the Grade Center. This occurs even when the Score attempt using option is set to most recent attempt and multiple attempts are allowed.Manually grade the desired attempt.

.

Note: instructors can manage announcements in the Control Panel. Click Tools then Announcements. Click the down arrow next to an obsolete announcement and select Delete.

.

27Notifications (Instructors/Students)NEU and NUOLSome discussion board notifications on the dashboard do not disappear when dismissed. Discussion Board Notifications will automatically cease to appear when they are read, but they cannot be dismissed.

.

28Packages/Utilities (Instructors)NEU and NUOLDuring the import/restore process, users receive an email saying "a system restart interrupted the process". However, the import does not complete and users subsequently receive a success email.Wait 30 minutes, or until a success email arrives, to validate that a course import has completed.

.

29Course Material (Instructors)NEU and NUOLWhen adding an item, In the Text Box Editor, when using ordered lists in HTML mode that use letters instead of numbers, Blackboard will revert the list to numbers when the HTML is submitted. Here is a demo video of this behavior: http://j.mp/hTntEr This is a known issue which will be fixed in a future version of Blackboard. In the meantime, the workaround - add a style modifier to each of the <li> tags in the ordered list, like this:

<ol>
<li style="list-style-type:lower-alpha"> Apple </li>
<li style="list-style-type:lower-alpha"> Orange </li>

.

36Course Management (Instructors)NEU OnlySome course menu items appear with "hidden" markers even though they are not hidden (the "show" option does not appear in the chevron menu - screenshot http://screencast.com/t/AWixsTez ). This will only happen if the course itself is marked unavailable. As soon as the instructor marks the course available to students, the pseudo-hidden course menu items will display as usual. Blackboard is aware of this issue and is working on a patch to fix it.SP5834904AS-155147
