|Inclusive Excellence Submission for|
the Political Science & Public Administration Department
| Retention of faculty: The record of the department is mixed when it comes to the retention of minority faculty. We have retained one and lost one. Our new hire will be a test case of how effective we can be in retaining, mentoring and nurturing another hire. |
Retention of Students: The department has been involved in publicizing the McNair Scholarship's availability to students. Two of our majors are part of the first set of scholars. One of our faculty members is serving as a mentor. Another faculty member is a part of the Eagle Mentoring program.
Some of us have been involved in reading and discussion sessions with staff in the College of Science and Health. We read "Malcolm X" and discussed it in December 2009.
One of our faculty members does a Reading Seminar on Filipino Americans every year. This year another faculty member, staff from CS&H and students are participating in a reading seminar scheduled for April 12. We are reading "Pareng Barack".
