The National Scholastic Sports Foundation instituted the first Outdoor Track & Field Championship (National Scholastic). The first meet was held in 1991 at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California. The meet remained at Birmingham H.S. for two years and then moved to UCLA in Westwood, California for one year. The following year, it was held at North Carolina State in Raleigh, NC and remained there for eleven years. In 2005, it was moved to North Carolina A & T in Greensboro, North Carolina, where it is presently being held.
