This is a simplistic projection of the free agent market value of many of the free agent position players for the 2008-2009 offseason that uses the Marcels projections done by Tom Tango for offense and the defensive projections done by Chone/Rally. The salary chart and the $4.84 million per win above replacement (WAR) figure are from Tom Tango.

The first sheet, Positions and "Predictions," gives an overview of each position, available players, and the predicted salary. The second sheet will (theoretically, at least), list how the Monkeys did versus the actual GMs. The following sheets are more detailed breakdowns of each position. The "Generic Salary Chart" lets you evaluate deals and players after they've been done or using your own projections.

For those of you upset because I didn't include catchers, well, I suppose the Ausmus family will have to live with the uncertainty. Nonetheless, I realize that Jason Varitek means a lot to many people, so here's my (monkey-independent projection of this market value: 4/$52M. What, that's what Posada got! [Update: Catchers added. The Cap'n is almost in the same league as Gregg Zaun! See below.]

Update 12/8/08: OK, I added catchers on their own tab, but not to the "Positions and Predictions" age. I don't have any fielding numbers, and some of the projections are based on so little that I just don't think they're as helpful. Plus a good playing time number is hard to get for them. I think these numbers are a going to be further off, so keep that in mind before judging those cute little monkeys. But anyway, the catchers are now there for completeness. Gregg Zaun rules. Update 12/17/08: (At least some of the) Non-tendered players added. Ty Wigginton and others.
