NYC Water Trail Petition: Addition of Dubos Point Launch Site
NYC Water Trails have helped to bring thousands of novice and experienced individuals from the realms of kayaking & canoeing, to water enthusiast out and onto the beautiful waters of New York. These “blueways” have connected 160 square miles of marsh lands, creeks, bays and rivers into a diverse network for exploration; creating new means of recreation, diverse educational opportunities, and a renewed appreciation of the natural environment that surrounds New York.
However, the NYC Water Trail has failed to establish adequate access points in Rockaway, Queens, one of the most spectacularly diverse areas of New York in regards to its array of natural wildlife and historical sites. The entire peninsula of Rockaway is served by a single canoe and kayak access point in Michaelis-Bayswater Park.
We, the undersigned, support Rockaway Waterfront Alliance in requesting that NYC Department of Parks & Recreation add Dubos Point to the NYC Water Trail. The trail addition will not only allow for the current network of trails to flourish, but will give those in Rockaway a safe water access point to explore their rich community while connecting with other parts of New York.
